Welcome Welcome to the Township of Toms River’s False Alarm Reduction Program

On August 24, 2010 the Township Council approved an Alarm Ordinance Chapter 159 relating to security alarms. This
ordinance was adopted to prevent unnecessary emergency response to false alarms. The police department responds to
an estimated 5,000 false alarm calls every year. False alarms cost the Township of Toms River and its citizens thousands
of dollars per year and take police officers from actual emergencies. The ordinance also creates a permit process for
residential and business alarms, and provides for fees for false alarms to encourage all alarm users to maintain the
reliability of and to properly use their alarm equipment.

To administer the program the Township has contracted with ATB Services based on their experience and expertise in
operating false alarm reduction programs across the country. ATB will be sending permit invoices to those residents
and businesses, which have already been identified as having burglar alarm systems. Residents and businesses that have
a working burglar alarm system should register their alarm system by completing the Alarm Permit Application available
online and submit it to the mailing address provided on the form. Inquiries and questions can be directed to ATB by
calling 1-877-356-7885 between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
