Welcome to the City of Farmers Branch False Alarm Reduction Program. The City has established
this Program to help citizens,merchants and businesses maintain the crime deterrent effect that properly
installed and operated alarm systems can provide you the alarm subscriber.
Growth of alarm system ownership has resulted in a tremendous amount of false alarms. The City is handling
nearly 3,012 false alarm calls a year. More than 98% of all alarms the Police Department responds on are
found to be false. This is very costly to all the City taxpayers.
False alarms can also divert officers from places where they're genuinely needed. They can delay responses
to calls that may be real and can remove our officers from proactive crime prevention activities.
The Alarm Ordinance 2519 was adopted to help maintain the crime deterrent effect of your alarm system, provide
you a sense of security and peace of mind while reducing the incident of false alarms and recovering part of
the associated response costs.
You are encouraged to take the free online alarm school to assist you and others who will be operating your
alarm system. Experience has demonstrated that the greater knowledge regarding the operation of an alarm system
one has, the fewer false alarms and services fees are assessed.
